Crack a Smile with this Christmas Confection!

Crack a Smile with this Christmas Confection!

The holidays are barreling down the calendar at us, and at Can You Imagine, we’ve imagined a way to help you out a bit. We’re sharing one of our favorite (and easiest!) recipes for a seasonal confection known as Christmas Crack. Why the name? Well, the recipe features crackers, you crack the finished sheet of candy into pieces, and, well, yes, it’s habit-forming. Feel free to share this recipe in your community’s newsletter. Maybe a staff member will even be inspired to personalize your catered holiday party with a batch!

If you want a more professional interpretation of a treat like this, check out Legally Addictive Cracker Cookies, featured in three of our popular gift offerings. We love it, and our clients agree!

Christmas Crack

Ingredients

Cooking spray
35 to 40 saltine crackers
2 sticks (1 cup) of butter
1 cup light brown sugar
8 ounces semisweet chocolate chips (about 1 1/3 cups)

Directions

Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and coat with spray. Arrange saltines salt-side down in a single layer. Use a medium saucepan to melt the butter and brown sugar, boiling a few minutes until it turns caramel color. Remove from heat and pour evenly over the prepared crackers, covering them completely.

Bake the pan in a 425-degree preheated oven for 3 to 5 minutes, until just bubbly. Watch carefully! Remove from oven and thickly scatter chocolate chips over the surface. Let the chips melt a bit, then spread gently over the pan with a knife.

Transfer the cooled pan to the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes to set the candy. Break the one big sheet into pieces and store in an airtight container.
