Plan ahead: Easter Egg Hunt

Stage a virtual Easter egg hunt for your community!

An Easter egg hunt after over a year (and counting) of social distancing and pandemic precautions: Just when you thought it couldn’t be done, we thought of a way!

Seriously, you can stage a fun variation of a traditional Easter egg hunt without violating COVID protocols. Even better, Zoom isn’t involved in this project – that would make it seem too much like work for your residents.

Begin with an email blast inviting interested families to sign up to participate. Couples and singletons are welcome, too, not just households with children. The RSVPs will let you know how many eggs to hide and how many gifts to stock as prizes. The idea is to hide one egg per participating apartment. Stock up on the inexpensive plastic two-piece eggs at the dollar store. Inside each egg, put a number corresponding to a specific gift as a prize.

Next, hide those eggs (and keep a record of where, because you most definitely will need it.) Obviously, you’re sticking to the common areas on your property. Maybe you’ll choose to color-code the eggs, with some keyed to child-friendly prizes and placed in easier locations and others keyed to more adult-themed gifts and stashed in more challenging hiding places. Or perhaps you’ll skip the numbering thing altogether and let participants select their gift from photos on your community’s Facebook page. Either way works, as long as everyone understands the egg hunt is open only to registered participants and participants should stop hunting eggs when they find their first and only egg.

Spread your hunt out over a few days. After all, people have jobs and lives and don’t need to be time-pressured over something that is supposed to be fun. Once the easily found eggs are claimed, you might need to post clues to some of the remaining eggs. One way this can be done is via a group email from which you delete the names of those who have already found their egg – they don’t need clues if their part in the game is up. And it’s a good idea to hide a few extras in case some spoilsport filches one.

Keep the whole process contact-free by arranging to deliver the gift-basket prizes by setting them inside apartment doors or choose gifts that can be hung from doorknobs. Invite winners to share photos to your community’s social media sites.

Now, which of our gifts make good prizes? Hey, just about any of them! Our new range of wine – bearing your community’s name, no less -  is a good choice for adult winners, especially champagne, considering the season. Just make sure to have options for winners who don’t drink alcohol, like our Flutes & Bubbly, which features sparkling cider. For families with children, focus on snack gifts, like Screen Time Snacks with its popcorn and treats, or Right Direction Snacks, which is chock full of chips, cookies, peanuts, and candy. Households with older children might like The Fun Begins, which includes playing cards and dice. With our hundreds of beautiful selections, you can find the right gift for all of your prize-winning residents.

We’re all on our way back to normal. This modified version of an Easter egg hunt can help remind your community that the end of the pandemic is on the horizon – and that’s a happy spring message for all.
