St.Patrick's Day Trivia Night!
Time for fun!
While community-building in-person events are still on hold, nothing is stopping us from staging a virtual game night. In fact, given the season, why not make it a St. Patrick’s trivia night? Set up a Zoom meeting for an evening in the first half of March, have folks make reservations, and enjoy a little frivolity, complete with prizes (more on that later).
Here are 10 questions to get you started. Want more? Hit the internet – that’s what we did! Just go a few screens beyond Wikipedia so those Googling against the rules at least have to make some effort. This list is a mix of softball questions that shouldn’t go above the head of a fifth-grader to some real stumpers, like #10. Confirm reservations with one or a few chocolate shamrocks (we sell them in a case of 250, so you’ll have plenty), and then, on the appointed night, hit them with:
1) What traditionally happens if you are caught NOT wearing green on St.Patrick's day? (You get pinched!)
2) Why is March 17 designated as St. Patrick’s Day? (Two possible right answers: It’s that Saint’s feast day, or it’s the day he died back in the year 461.)
3) What animal is St. Patrick credited with ridding Ireland of? (Snakes)
4) What river traditionally gets dyed green on St. Patrick’s Day? (Chicago River)
5) Which four Christian denominations officially observe St. Patrick’s Day? (Roman Catholic, Anglican Communion, Eastern Orthodox, and Lutheran)
6) What traditional gift does the Irish prime minister present to the U.S. president on St. Patrick’s Day? (Waterford crystal bowl full of shamrocks)
7) What color other than green was originally associated with St. Patrick’s Day? (Blue. Consider also accepting “orange” as an answer, since it comes from the Irish flag.)
8) What vegetable played a major role in the history of Irish Americans? (Potato, as in the Great Potato Famine)
9) How do Leprechauns earn their gold? (Making and mending shoes.)
10) What was St. Patrick’s original name? Maewyn Succat – and if they know that, it’s pretty obvious they’re Googling!
The winner gets one of our yummy St. Patrick’s Day snack gifts, either Lucky Treats or Top O’ the Morning, or some other gift you select. Make sure you have extras in case of a tie. Then, at the end of the game, reward all participants by telling them they all won by choosing a great place to live and giving each of them one of our signature wines, complete with the custom label for your property. Talk about the luck of the Irish!
